Modeling utilizes computer programs, which consist of various mathematical equations that simulate a real-world watershed. Inputs to the computer model include actual measured climate data, such as precipitation and temperature. Streamflow and pollutant transport are the outputs of the model; this data is used to determine Total Daily Maximum Loads (TMDLs) in order to protect water quality.
